On Sept. 18, 2019, residents and associates from Life Care Center of Greeneville, Tennessee, took an all-day field trip to end the summer season.
Residents enjoyed a scenic ride through the Great Smoky Mountains to their destination of Dollywood, an amusement park themed for the iconic Dolly Parton, located on the outskirts of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
As soon as the bus drove into the parking lot of Dollywood, eyes widened as the residents saw the beautiful fall decorations and multiple roller coasters. The first stop inside the park was a show called Country Crossroads. The residents enjoyed several old country classics from artists such as Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash.
The afternoon was followed by riding the Dollywood Express, a 110-ton coal-burning steam engine train, through the mountains, attending several other shows and looking at the various pumpkin decorations.
Lastly, the group enjoyed dinner on the Front Porch Café before heading back to Greeneville.
“This was a very special day for our residents,” said Lacey Kirby, activity director. “Most of them have never been to an amusement park, even one so close to home. The smiles shown were priceless. The very next day, the whole group was asking when they could go again! This field trip was one to remember.”
